Discovering Smartcanucks.ca

A year and a half ago when my first daughter was born it hit my husband and I hard just how expensive life had become. Diapers were a big expense, we would easy spend $15-$20 on a package of diapers that would only last 4-7 days depending on the size, the bigger the size the less diapers you get, same was true with the smaller new born fitting diapers. Unfortunately for us our little one was in those annoyingly expensive new born diapers until she was 3 months old!! Baby clothes are one of those things that are so tempting to buy, but at the same time you have to say to yourself "stop", babies are usually only in those clothes for a few months and how often are they going to wear that cute little $30 size 3 month flower dress or those got to have $25 size one black mary jane shoes? Not often, from my experience long sleepers are a good investment while the pretty frilly new baby clothes are more for the parents to show off how cute their maybe not so cute baby is. Aaahh no don't kill me I'm just joking all babies are beautiful, but do you see what I'm saying?! We spend way more money then is actually necessary on stuff that is not going to be used for very long. I've had friends say to me that they aren't going to have kids until they make more money, I may have understood that comment less than a year ago but now with a 18 month old and a two month old I can't even empathize knowing what I know now.
When our first daughter was 8 months old I found out I was one month pregnant, it was a scare, I can't lie. What were we going to do, two kids in diapers, two cribs, a double stroller, it was so overwhelming. At that time I lost all my energy and with that my breast milk, I had no choice but to start buying formula, another big expense. At $30 extra a week my husband began looking for cans of formula samples, he came out of his work space an says you have to look at this site, www.smartcanucks.ca, it has a bunch of freebies on it. I looked and could not believe it they were all Canadian freebies, I always knew Americans had it great with freebies and samples and this was almost as equally amazing. I must have spent a good portion of the day signing up for formula samples and other freebies, making sure to send them to my mom too to ensure extra savings. This site not only has the benefit of of obtaining freebies but it also has an active section on weekly deals, coupon use and trading, as well as many other continually updated areas. This site has been extremely helpful this past year and most of the people are amazingly kind and generous. I have found however, that their cash back system is a scam, you use to be able to buy things online from this website and in return get 2-5% cash back depending on the store, yet some people have been requesting that their money be cashed out since last summer and still haven't received it. I would also advise that anyone who enters a contest put on by the admins of this site and win, be prepared to wait a long time for your cash reward. There was a cute baby and kids contest back in October and the prizes are just being sent out now. There is a saying that seems to be fitting for this site: "if it seems too good to be true, it probably is." The same is true with some freebies, make sure to read the comments left by other people to see if it's really worth it, and to avoid needless spam create a separate email that can be easily dumped if necessary. With this blog I hope to inspire others to look for deals, use coupons and keep more money in your pockets. Happy savings!
